Feminista Jones writes an excellent column on why we “need” feminism and why it must be inclusive to succeed.
- Have you seen how they are passing legislation left and right to control our bodies? And we still don’t have an Equal Rights Amendment, and there’s still quite the pay gap…..etc etc etc…
- Inclusivity (or the lack thereof) has always been where feminism lost its way and support. As Jones says in her column…
“Women of color, queer and trans women, disabled women, immigrant women, and poor women must all be called in and allowed space at the table to contribute their wisdom and experiences to the modern feminist movement.”
It is only when we work together, that we will reach a harmonious conclusion. That means all of us. Every sex and gender and color and type. Wouldn’t that be glorious?
Read it. It’s well thought out and a lesson the movement needs to learn.
PS: Same author has a book out. Reclaiming Our Space: How Black Feminists Are Changing the World From the Tweets to the Streets. You’ll be wiser for reading it.
