Tough times all around for our country and our world. Harder still for women living in a culture challenged by equality, politics, and the patriarchy.
Here’s some quick highlights to get you informed and fired up.
Tara Reade – My Take.
Tara Reade’s story about being sexually harassed/assaulted by Joe Biden is ever changing. We have listened. She has been heard. Joe has asked for a full investigation into the matter.
Sadly, like so many of these “he said, she said” stories from years ago, we may never know the whole truth.
What we know for sure though, is that Joe Biden’s opponent, our current president Donald J Trump , has absolutely, positively assaulted women.
We are not better off with Trump as president. Of this, I am completely sure. The rest of the details will not change that. I am moving on.
So now that we’ve established we need Joe to win in 2020, Who will he pick as VP?
He said on camera it would be a woman. The question is which one? There are so many qualified women in the pool it’s hard to even imagine that anyone wouldn’t pick a woman. Here’s a breakdown of 10 women on the list, and their pros and cons. Gonna get interesting up in here soon. Spoiler: Kamala seems to be in the #1 spot at the moment.
Pro-Life only means Pro-Forced Birth for Republicans. To hell with the rest of it.
Republicans are great at branding. They slapped a label on themselves years ago as being Pro-Life. It was meant to portray Dems as anti-life due to their support of a woman’s right to an abortion by choice. But are Republicans really pro-life? Nah.
It is Republicans that during this pandemic are saying, let’s cull the herd, let grandma die. It is Republicans that fight against common sense gun laws. The lack of a decent healthcare for all program in the United States, baby jails and the horror in the ICE camps, and even a blatant disregard for the environment are all cooked up by Republican stalwarts. Which party is keeping the death penalty alive and well? By golly that would be the Republicans.
BUT, Democrats just won’t give up (and never will!) on a woman’s right to have a safe and legal abortion and that makes us the murderers right?
Even some Catholics are starting to see through the onslaught of Republican deceit. Read this article that bears this out and gives Dems something to think about.
I don’t see Dems giving up on a woman’s right to choose whether or not to have a child. But just like common sense gun laws, there’s a lot of common sense things we can do to ensure when abortions do occur they are rare, safe, and legal. I can’t see much of anyone having a problem with that. We could start by fully funding Planned Parenthood, teaching a robust sex education program in schools and handing out condoms like candy? I hear babysitting is also a hell of a deterrent.
Gender Neutral Toy Colors. Say What?
So, retailers are finally catching on to the fact that pink for girls and blue for boys when it comes to toys isn’t good marketing in the year 2020. As woke parents are realizing that these colors begin stereotyping our children at crazy young ages, we are finally seeing the beginning to an end of girl aisles and boy aisles. Great article in the daily mail here with more deets. I’ll leave you with a picture of a fantastic toy vacuum cleaner sold by K-Mart. Please note the adorable young man on the packaging. THIS is marketing I can get behind. (and newsflash: I guess K-Mart is still around after all)
US Women’s Soccer Team – Pay Equality Suit Thrown Out by Federal Judge. I must admit, I didn’t see this one coming.
So, the wage gap lawsuit filed by the National US Women’s Soccer Team has been thrown out by a federal judge. It will be appealed. The disparity of working conditions will go on trial in June. I know these women. They will not stop fighting for what is right. I’m with them 100%. Read more about the case being dismissed here. What a blow to equality. Change is hard.
Must Listen To Podcast
@Emrazz (feminist next door) on Twitter always sorts through misogyny with a intelligent, courageous flair that is unbeatable. Last week, she was on the podcast Start Me Up with Kimberly Johnson. You can and should go listen to it. She talks toxicity, sluts, and all things feminism. Listen to it twice. To just give you a touch of her style, here’s her pinned post on Twitter.
Can you name all 59 women who came forward against Cosby? Can you name half of them? Can you name 5? Would you recognize them out of context? Do you want an autograph?
Cool so we agree that women don’t make rape accusations to become famous.

Snaps to all the caretakers out there. (and don’t forget Mother’s Day on Sunday!)
This is a fantastic quote from writer/physician Ira Byock. It seems especially timely given both the pandemic and upcoming Mother’s Day.
“Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones.
But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.
A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said.”
We are at our best when we serve others. Be civilized.”
Have a fierce and civilized week. Be strong when you need to. Be soft when you want to. You are all of it in a beautiful package.
